A Nintendo podcast for all things Mario, Zelda, Wii U, 3DS, and more!

SuperZambezi On August - 11 - 2014

From the four Paper Mario games we picked as candidates, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door was selected as the VGL for the month of August! As it was mentioned before, we’re hoping you picked a game you have not played before. If you have already played The Thousand-Year Door, we’re hoping you replay the game, or at the very least play some or parts to help jog your memory. So here is what we do from here:

  • Find a copy of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and start playing it!
  • Use the chatbox below to update fellow listeners on your progress and discuss the game.
  • Leave questions about the game in the comments (1-2 questions only please, so make sure it’s thoughtful! And make sure to address it to everyone!)
  • Listen to our episode of TLL on the game on August 30!

  • AbsolPowers

I kind of want to talk about SPM, since I feel like the rest have been talked about to death :3

    • Person McPerson

      i know right!!!???

      • http://www.mariopartylegacy.com Bowser498

        AKA ikr :p

    • Mister Sushi

I don’t think any of the Paper Mario games have been talked about very much at all, besides Sticker Star. Any game that isn’t Sticker Star would be nice.

  • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIq11jBi0t0zjrBN9i5DIPQ Kirbylover490

    Go Sticker Star!

    • rafmandx

      Nah

    • Joseph Deitemeyer

      Said no one ever.

  • RafalRib

    GO SUPER PAPER MARIO!!!

  • SuperZambezi

Let’s not do Sticker Star – not that it’s a bad game, but because I would guess that’s the one we all most recently played.

    • Mister Sushi

Let’s do Paper Mario 64! It’s the classic that started the series. Also, it would be nice to discuss what we think would have been in Super Mario RPG 2, the game that was replaced by Paper Mario.

    • Joseph Deitemeyer

      Also, it’s very heavily hated.

  • Bowser498

Sorry, but I do not have any of the games… As a result, I voted for Sticker Star since it is the newest. :p

    • SuperZambezi

Weeeeeeeeeeeeellllll, we want people to play games they haven’t played or do not own. So we’re encouraging you to pick a game then get that game so you can play it. :D

      • Bowser498

Looks like I don’t have the money due to E3 games. :(

        • Mister Sushi

E3 games? Which games came out at E3?

          • http://www.mariopartylegacy.com Bowser498

Mario games that were announced at E3 – such as Treasure Tracker and Mario Maker. I need to plan ahead…

          • Mister Sushi

Oh… I get it. If you really want to participate though, you should vote for Paper Mario 64, since it is the cheapest, being 10.00$.

          • http://www.mariopartylegacy.com Bowser498

Looks like I can’t get any of them – I have 500 Wii Points, or $5.00.

  • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjfV8aKrUfC0wwtCypieUUA TwoDreamy Luigi

Go Super Paper Mario. It was technically the “most” unique Paper Mario game, gameplay-wise & dimensional-wise (2D). There was some good in it. Love the retro feel of the levels & music, especially music. Mr. L became a very popular character (even though it’s pretty obvious). Bowser with that Carrie combination was so overpowered, it’s not funny, maybe. Very underrated, but at least there was a story, and Bowser is an important character instead of a one-dimensional villain. Bowser is so barren & lacks personality in PMSS. Even Bowser Jr. & Kamek shine over Bowser.

  • http://www.mariopartylegacy.com/ Vipsoccermaster

I went with Super Paper Mario. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the story was excellent in the game, and I think TLL would like to discuss the game in-depth.

  • Bowser498

Sorry Super Paper Mario fans, but you guys are not in the lead. :( (btw, I won’t be asking questions due to not having any game from the series)

    • Person McPerson

      noooooooooooo

  • ImpaDude

Super Paper Mario! Love that game!

  • http://www.mariopartylegacy.com/ Vipsoccermaster

Also, if Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door wins, then I’m positive that Timmy would want to participate in the discussion.

  • GameGuy5

I can just sense TTYD will win, but I went for Super Paper Mario as well. I got the game for Christmas recently, and had an excellent time with it! I believe that the game would be very interesting (conversation-wise) to hear from you guys.

  • Boo3DSmashBoo

GO, THE THOUSAND YEAR DOOR!!! YOU’RE THE ONLY ONE I NEVER PLAYED!!

    • Mister Sushi

You’re kind of supposed to pick the one that you can play…

      • Boo3DSmashBoo

You’re wrong. Read again the text above the poll.

        • Mister Sushi

Actually, I’m right. I never said you couldn’t pick one that you never played. I said you have to pick one that you can play, so that you can play it for the VGL.

          • Boo3DSmashBoo

“… so pick a game you have not played or would not mind playing again!”

          • http://www.mariopartylegacy.com Bowser498

I like you new profile pic! It reminds me of Halloween. =D

          • Boo3DSmashBoo

            Thanks.

          • Mister Sushi

…wut? Yeah, I read the text. Thanks.
If you are able to play TTYD this month, then I apologize, and I feel very ridiculous.

  • Bowser498

    Sticker Star FTW! :D

  • VooDu

I don’t know which one to vote for. 64 is my most played, TTYD is one of my favourite Mario games, I never played Super Paper Mario, and I’d love to see everyone rage of Sticker Star, one I haven’t played either. I’ll go for Sticker Star cause I think it’ll end up being the funniest.

    • rafmandx

It’s not really rage, but if Sticker Star was picked it wouldn’t be that entertaining for reasons that the game had been criticized about. Lame story, no unique characters (they were all just toads with like the same colors, and generic battle enemies saying some stuff) there’s very few like Bowser Jr. and Kirtsi, and lame dialogue. And battles in the game are pointless. 64′s story was just a typical Bowser kidnapping Peach story, but you get to see what’s going on with Bowser and play as Peach which was pretty great, there is tons of different characters with their own flare in the game, and dialogue was great with all the different characters. In the other games it gets better as well. And since you haven’t played Super Paper Mario it’s great and follows its roots. The only thing that’s different is that the world is 2d/3d (you switch between the two) and no RPG battles. Action battles are still fun and you actually LEVEL UP so fighting isn’t pointless like in Sticker Star. Don’t get me wrong, Sticker Star is a decent game, but when compared to it’s predecessors, it’s comes last in the race.

    • Mister Sushi

Why would people rage over Sticker Star? Sticker Star is a GOOD GAME. I can’t believe it’s getting so much hate! Why do people not like it? Is it because there are no partners? Is it because it’s split into levels? You have to stop comparing Sticker Star to the other Paper Mario games, because then you can see how good of a game it is on it’s own.

Anyone could help me? I’m almost new here, and I don’t understand what is this about (but I’ve been visiting the web much time and I don’t remember this)

    • Bowser498

So, at the beginning of each month, there will be four games to pick from; they are similar in some way. Once the game is chosen, there will be a new article with the name of the game there. Once this happens, you could ask questions about the game for each person/Lost Level to answer. At the end of the month, there will be a podcast about the game. This podcast will cover peoples’ thoughts about the game, and then each person/Lost Level answers your questions that you submitted. Hoped this helped!
      -Bowser498 :)

  • Mister Sushi

PAPER MARIO 64! PAPER MARIO 64! PAPER MARIO 64!

  • B.

The thousand year door was my first mario game ever. I just love it to pieces.

  • http://diceblock.wikia.com/wiki/Mario_Party_Wiki Dreb607

    3 questions for the podcast:
    1. If you were in the Paper Mario world and you started a adventure, would you prefer Goombario or Goombella as your partner?
    2. What is your favorite music out of the series?
    3. How would you feel if a new Paper Mario came out for the Wii U or Nintendo’s future console?

    • Mister Sushi

      1. Goombario. He’s a total fanboy. It’s hilarious.
      2. I think that the Paper Mario Sticker Star theme is really nice. So relaxing and upbeat at the same time.
      3. YES! YAYAYYAYAYYAYAYAYAYAY!

  • rafmandx

I hope the next one combines the unique parts of each game to combine a great one. The rpg mechanics from 64 and Thousand Year Door, the great story from Super, the neat paper visuals from sticker star, and the good music from each game. Plus HD visuals from Wii U (most likely to Wii U).

  • LudwigVonKoopa7777

I’ve only played Sticker Star, but Thousand Year Door is considered to be the best Paper Mario game, so I voted Thousand Year Door.

    • Mister Sushi

You realize you’re supposed to pick the game that you can play for the month, not the one you can’t.

  • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjfV8aKrUfC0wwtCypieUUA TwoDreamy Luigi

Were there any dark / creepy parts you have experienced from this game?
While this is my most played Paper Mario game & my FAVORITE, this was the game that gave me the most nightmares out of all the games I’ve played (yes, even more than Luigi’s Mansion) when I was little. Some of its music were downright eerie to me.

  • Joseph Deitemeyer

Go Thousand Year Door! It expanded and improved everything that made the original great, while adding some awesome new stuff on it’s own!

  • VooDu

Hmm, what question to ask. How about, if you could change one thing, what would you change?

  • http://www.mariopartylegacy.com/ Bowser498

I know I don’t have the game, so I’ll ask a general question anyway… Do you think the game itself is too easy, too hard, or neither in terms of difficulty and why?

  • GameGuy5

Ugh, you people. Super Paper Mario would have been 1,000x better to talk about on the podcast.

  • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjfV8aKrUfC0wwtCypieUUA TwoDreamy Luigi

Do you think Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door should have been rated E 10+? There were some instances where it seems odd or bizarre. Here are three examples:
    1. Flurrie shows her breasts. Heck, even Mario pulls on her breasts to blow wind. Plus, Flurrie looks like a uchi mama.
    2. You know that provocative part in Peach’s Chapter 5 Interlude. Peach drinks a potion to turn invisible; here’s the nasty part, TEC commands her to remove her dress like a stalker. People can’t visibly see her, but what if you think deeper into this “game” theory. PEACH IS EITHER GOING TO FREEZE TO DEATH OR BURN HER BUTT OFF depending on the temperature inside X-Naut Fortress’s metal floors. I highly doubt Nintendo made a naked sprite of Peach (don’t think too hard). Making a female walk around naked (and invisible) is one of the nastiest things you could theoretically do, Nintendo. Sorry, SpiderStaryu, I appreciate you loving Peach as much as Prince Charming; but, Peach does have a “nasty” side. /o/
    3. Shadow Peach literally cursed a lightning bolt upon Grodus, and obliterated Grodus’s entire body. Only his head remains intact. That’s cruel & dark.

of all the bosses in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, who did you like the most? Also this is a general Paper Mario Question, but what did you like better? Partners, Pixls, or like in Sticker Star, no pixels at all? i say pixels only because Tippy had a better detailed background
